INT. — HIGH SCHOOL CLASSROOM 1957 in a RURAL TOWN
Miss Tuthill the teacher is addressing the class.
MISS TUTHILL
Class — I have wonderful news for you today. The class rings have arrived and will be issued tomorrow after school in the auditorium. Please be sure to bring your receipt.
CHARLIE
(Whispering)
Hey ALBIE — What’s she mean receipt?
ALBIE
That’s what they gave ya when you paid for it at the beginning of the year.
CHARLIE
Yeah okay! You got yours?
ALBIE
You must be kidding. Of course, I got it. I carry it right here in my wallet all the time.
ALBIE reaches back and pats his back pocket.
Do ya know how long it took me to scrape up those twenty-seven bucks? I musta hoed five acres of old man Seber’s garden and shoveled a ton of chicken shit out of his hen house to get it.
CHARLIE
Twenty-seven? You got screwed. Mine only cost me twenty-one!

ALBIE
Yeah, but I got me a special one. It’s the only one with a white, sparkly stone and my initials engraved on the inside. Wait till ya see it. It’s gonna…
